Our commitment
CoronavirusQuestions.com is committed to making its content accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. Public health information is only useful if people can actually read it, and we treat accessibility as part of that obligation rather than an optional extra.
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
CoronavirusQuestions.com targets conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Targets conformance" means we have adopted WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our standard and work toward it on an ongoing basis, but that some content may not yet fully conform. Accessibility is treated as a continuing process on this site, not a one-time audit: we test as we build, and we fix issues as we identify them.
Measures we take
Accessibility is addressed through the following ongoing measures:
- Semantic HTML structure with a logical heading hierarchy on every page
- A "skip to main content" link on every page for keyboard and screen-reader users
- Landmark regions (
header, nav, main, footer) and descriptive ARIA labels on navigation - Text alternatives for meaningful images; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology
- Keyboard operability for all interactive controls, with visible focus indicators
- Respect for the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting - Automated accessibility checks, including color-contrast testing, run against the built site
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some limitations remain. We list them here rather than claim conformance we have not yet achieved:
- Color contrast in some interface elements. A small number of secondary elements — certain badges, footer text, and accent-colored text — do not yet meet the Level AA contrast ratio. Remediation is in progress.
- Third-party advertising content. Advertisements are served by Google AdSense and rendered inside third-party frames. We do not control their markup and cannot guarantee their accessibility.
- External and syndicated content. News headlines and research listings link to external sites (journals, public health agencies, news outlets) whose accessibility we do not control.
Compatibility
This site is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge) and with screen readers used alongside them. The site is responsive and is intended to be usable at increased zoom levels and on small screens.
Feedback and reporting an issue
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this site. If you encounter a barrier — a page you cannot navigate, text you cannot read, or a control you cannot operate — please contact us and tell us:
- The URL of the page where you encountered the problem
- What you were trying to do
- The browser and any assistive technology you were using
We aim to respond to accessibility reports within 5 business days. Accessibility issues that prevent access to health information are prioritized.
